These days Kit uses a mixed media approach to his art, utilizing drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, and the computer. His background in art started when he was a child with charcoal drawing, acrylic and oil painting. Kit Rae is also an artist who specializes in the sci-fi, fantasy, and horror genres. His primary business is Kit Rae Design Studio, LLC. Though Kit has been designing knives since 1984, fantasy and sci-fi art have always been Kit's passion. He is most well known for his best selling Swords of the Ancients collection, for which he created a series of companion fantasy art paintings and stories. Kit's fantasy knives and swords spawned the creation of a huge collectible market worldwide for fantasy weapons that has generated numerous imitators. Some of His designs are strikingly beautiful, some wickedly haunting, and some defy conventional description. Images from a hidden world of dreams and nightmares inspire this line of edged creations. In 1997 Kit created the highly successful Kit Rae Fantasy Art brand, a line of his unique collectible weapons with companion art prints of his fantasy paintings. He has also created custom knife designs for companies like United Cutlery, Harley-Davidson, and Colt, and in 1996 won a Blade Magazine award. In addition to designing such famous collectible weapons as the Indiana Jones Khyber Bowie for Lucasfilm and the Sword of Darkness for United Cutlery, Kit Rae has also supervised many licensed weapon replicas from film and tv properties such as “Heroes”, “Highlander”, “Warcraft/Frostmourne”, "Blade/Blade Trinity,"" Hellboy", "Total Recall," "Mortal Kombat", "The Mask of Zorro", and over fifty products for "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy".
